Palazzo Davanzati

The Palazzo Davanzati is remarkable and flawless example of old Florentine house. It is located in Florence, Italy and it features the Museum of the Old Florentine House. The Palazzo Davanzati is one of the oldest palaces and is standing from 14th century.Originally, the palace was owned by the Davizzi family, which were one of the wealthiest wool merchants. But in 1578, it was purchased by the Davanzati family and it was in their possession till 1838.

After 1838, the palace was divided into numerous flats and it also suffered severe damage. In 1904, Elia Volpi – the antique dealer, entirely furnished the palace and opened itfor the public as a Museum of the Old Florentine House in 1910. The entire palace is having five floors.As you will enter Palazzo Davanzati from one of the three huge portals, you will find a large room which was then used for conducting business. The palace is now used to exhibit different antique objects as well as other information regarding the history of the palace. Palazzo Davanzati is an amazing place; you can walk through the its light-filled courtyard and can climb the sheer staircase which leads to the piano nobile, where the Davanzati family did most of its living. On first floor, there is beautiful Parrot Room (Sala dei Pappagalli), where you can see wall paintings which look like patchwork wall-hangings decorated with miniver, featuring embroidered or painted parrots on the blocks

 

.The grand entrance loggia leads to the pictorial courtyard, from where you can go to upper floors. On every floor rooms are designed in the same manner – the Sala Madornale which occupies the whole façade, the study, the drawing room, the bedroom with open-beamed roof as well as fake stuffing decorations and on the third floor there is a kitchen. By visiting Palazzo Davanzati, you can experience the golden renaissance era of the Florence city. This palace shows power, endurance and wealth of the Davanzati family. The entire palace shows all comforts and luxuries of that time. The palace is open for visitors from Tuesday to Saturday as well as on alternating Sundays and Mondays, from 8.15am to 1.50pm.
