Since 1784, this has been the seat of the Academy of Fine Arts, chosen by Granduke Leopoldo di Lorena. Earlier academics were the Vasari, the Sangallo, the Ammannati, the Bronzino and Michelangelo was elected teacher of the arts. Inside the Galleria we find important works, such as the David, the Prisoners, and other works by Michelangelo, many triptychs of various artists among which the Gaddi and Orcagna. The Accademia also houses works by Botticelli, Giambologna, Filippino Lippi, and Paolo Uccello.
