The first group includes four martyrs – Victorinus, Carpophorus, Severian and Severus. The second group consists of five martyrs – Simplicius, Nicostratus, Symphorian, Castorius, and Claudius.It is one of the examples, in which the church was eager to admire those old stone cutters, who choose to die than carving a sculpture of Roman God.

These Four Crowned Martyrs were the Stone cutters from Germany and the working masons of England, which are also known as Quator Coronati. Here in the Florence, the bodies of these four masons as well as bodies of other five masons were buried and hence, every year a festival is held in their honor on 8th November.

For the exterior decoration of the Church which church Nanni di Banco was chosen. The architecture of this church shows Gothic style of architecture and Nanni’s art shows Roman sculpture style. It is said that the Four Crowned Martyrs were themselves sculptor and they were killed because of declining to make an image of Roman god.

It is one of those historical sites of the Florence which shows the great history of the city.
